Now that it is cold and dark outside, I can’t help but dream about comfort food. And why not make that comfort food Algerian? Nothing warms a frozen winter heart quite like berkoukes. Here are some Algerian and North African dishes to check out this winter!

Berkoukes – almost like couscous, except more delicious and often found in soup. Perfect for cold winter nights!

 

Loubia fassas – a perfectly delicious bean stew.

 

Tajine – the classic North African stew, cooked in a claypot in the oven. Just looking at the picture makes me feel warmer!

 

Chorba Adess – lentil soup, flavored with cinnamon.

 

Mint tea – finish (or start, or both) dinner with some Algerian mint tea. And why not serve it with baghrir, the Berber style pancake?
